I draw with a Huion Kamvas 24 Plus hooked up to a Mac Studio. For programs, I use Clip Studio Paint EX, and occasionally Photoshop.

Sometimes I’m feeling brave and will try to draw on the iPad before being humbled.

I have a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon University, which is, markedly, not an art school. A few years after graduation, I did one year of an illustrations masters program at Washington University in St. Louis before dropping out.

In my opinion, you absolutely do not have to go to art school or even major in art to find success in the arts. If you have the financial resources, go for it, but if not, there are many free or much more affordable resources online. I find the best way to approach education is to find teachers who are doing what you want to do, and be proactive in learning from them. Whether that is in universities or on the internet.

Most importantly, I believe that whatever path you choose, whether it is to major in a completely different field, or to forego higher education all together, it will only serve to enrich your art. Art is not about a degree. It’s about your lived experience. So be confident in whatever path you choose, and the results will show clearly in your art.
